Meeting You Where You Are

Are you a parent who is struggling?  Having a child can be a roller coaster of emotions you never imagined.  Whether your  child is brand new, or older but still providing plenty of challenges , juggling everyone's needs (and taking care of yourself!) can be overwhelming.

There comes a time when all stressed out parents could use some support from a mental health professional to help cope with the challenges of raising children. Or perhaps it is your child who can use support. Maybe even both of you! I’m a licensed social worker in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and I work with all ages and concerns, though I'm specifically focused on young children (2.5-5), parents of young children, neurodiverse children/young adults, and parents of neurodiverse children. I’d love to work with you as you move toward the life you want to live.

Many of us (not just moms!) can identify with the above quote. Since graduating from UConn in 2005,  I have worked with children, adults, and families dealing with a wide range of stressors, so there is time to think but also to sleep! Life can be overwhelming and sometimes even exhausting,  but there are ways to feel less inundated by it all.

A BIT ABOUT THERAPY

Talk About What's On Your Mind

Seeking out therapy for yourself or your child can be stressful.  For many, it's a new experience, and you might not be sure what to expect. I find that for the vast majority of people, just trying out a few sessions is enough to see that it's really not that bad after all!  My number one goal is to form a trusting working relationship with you.  I'm not here to judge you, or critique your choices, but if you are distressed by how things are going, I AM here to work with you to figure out what can be done to change that. My style can be described as laid back, though you can certainly expect to see progress through the therapeutic interventions we use.  I have experience working with  all ages of children, as well as parents. I'm also a parent myself, so understand the challenges firsthand on a personal level! I'm well versed in numerous therapeutic interventions, with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and Collaborative and Proactive Solutions being among my favorites.  I also incorporate ecotherapy and play therapy.

It can be difficult to find a therapist who is able to work with your preschool aged child, or who understands your neurodiverse child.  I am enthusiastic and experienced in helping young children and neurodiverse children of any age (such as those with autism, ADHD, and anxiety) learn about feelings, friends, and problem solving, and have worked with neurotypical children as well.  As a parent, you will also be involved in their therapy to support them in learning new skills and maintaining positive connections. I can meet with your child at your home or in a community setting where they are having difficulty, such as the playground.
